It seems like sneak peeks at Toy Story 4 come in unexpected places, and this time we’ve got a look at some unannounced characters (at least officially) thanks to, of all things, an international notebook website!
A whopping 31 images on the Scribe website – the largest manufacturer of paper products in Mexico and Latin America – show a variety of both new and returning characters in their collection of Toy Story 4 notebook designs. Let’s take a look…
One series consists of mostly imaginary advertisements for each of the toys. Many are returning favorites…
… but we’ve also got a few new characters (that we already know) in this art style.
Another series utilizes assets of the characters in their animated forms. Many feature newly-rendered stock images that we’ve seen before…
… but a couple give us our first real look at new characters that have yet to be formally announced.
Duke Caboom! There is zero doubt now that he’s the same toy in Jack-Jack’s playpen in Incredibles 2.
And here’s the little toy that we’ve seen perched on Bo’s shoulder – Officer Giggle McDimples! (I’ve also found it written as Giggles McDimple in other toy listings.) While we still don’t know what role these characters will play in the film’s plot, it’s nice to finally have a clearer idea of what they’ll look like.
There is also what appears to be a smaller-scale pocket-sized notebook line, some repeating the same designs as above, but others with different images, and a few more clues…
The interior pages are great…
…the hidden treasures, however, are on the back covers.
Both old and new characters are visible in the diamond pattern…
… but the best details are on this scatter print. We can see Duke Caboom again, performing a stunt. And we get our first illustrated glimpse of Gabby Gabby – the doll in the yellow dress – who we’ve only seen in a vague image of a Halloween costume. It’s also nice that so many of the classic characters are included here, because while new faces are nice, it’s the familiar friends I really want to revisit.
I really hope we get a similar collection of Toy Story 4 notebooks in the US once the back-to-school merchandise hits the store shelves. These designs are so fun, and I’d stock up on a lot of them if I had the chance!
