First ‘Lightyear’ Books on Amazon

Although Lightyear is still eight months away, the first books about the film have shown up as pre-orders on Amazon!

Both publications are by Studio Fun International, with a release date of May 3, 2022.

Disney/Pixar: Lightyear Magnetic Hardcover

Kids will love this Magnetic Hardcover retelling of Disney and Pixar’s new film Lightyear that includes 10 magnetic pages and 12 magnets.

Lightyear is a sci-fi action-adventure and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voice of Chris Evans)—the hero who inspired the toy. The film reveals how a young test pilot became the Space Ranger that we all know him to be today. Lightyear is directed by Angus MacLane, produced by Galyn Susman, and opens in theaters in Summer 2022.

It’s recommended for a preschool/kindergarten age of 3-5 years; and since it only has ten pages, it’s clearly more of an activity book, probably the type where you can put the magnetic characters into different scenes from the movie. The price is $12.99.

Disney/Pixar: Lightyear Movie Theater Storybook and Projector

Kids will love this retelling of Disney and Pixar’s new film Lightyear that includes a handheld projector and 20 images from the film.

This one is geared towards a slightly older audience – ages 6-8, or grades 1-3 – and with nearly three times the pages as the other book, will likely contain more detailed content. It’s priced a bit more at $19.99, probably because of the projector.

The synopsis for both is the same, echoing the official summary found on the Pixar website, which I’m sure is all that’s been approved to say about Lightyear as of yet. And neither shows what the final cover will look like when the books are published. Of course these two books are just the tip of the iceberg, and only the beginning of the long line of products that will be released for the movie. But it’s always nice to see the first things start to appear!

Rumored Lego Sets

I tend to be cautious with rumors, but since there’s nothing else about Lightyear right now, I’ll share one other little thing I found. Instagram user @greekbricks, a Lego fan account, shared this post suggesting that three Lego sets are in the works as a tie-in for the film:

Although still considered a rumor, with no source given for the information, it makes sense since there have been many Toy Story themed Lego sets in the past. If it proves to be correct, we could have the following next summer:

  • 76830 for $19.99
  • 76831 for $29.99
  • 76832 for $49.99

To compare with the sets that came out with Toy Story 4: $19.99 would be similar to the small Duke Caboom set; $29.99 would be close to the mid-range RV set; and $49.99 would be around the size of the largest carnival set that was released. I’m not saying these are exact price matches with what came out in 2019, only using them as relatively close comparisons in size and potential content.

Even though things are quiet now, we’re getting really close to having actual news about Lightyear. I’m ready to have something to search for and new discoveries to make – even though it’s a bit stressful to keep up with it all, it’s exciting, too!
