‘Lightyear’ Trailer Could Be Shown With ‘Encanto’

We may be getting an official trailer for Lightyear as soon as November!

On September 14, Pixar animator Daniel Gonzales tweeted that the first Lightyear trailer would be shown in theaters with Encanto, Disney’s next animated film, which is set to be released on November 24, 2021.

Gonzales has since deleted the tweet, but Twitter account @JackTweets44 grabbed a screencap of it before it disappeared.

Of course, it’s possible that the information was deleted because it was incorrect, but it’s more likely that it was simply not supposed to be shared yet. With Disney’s planned “Disney+ Day” on November 12 – this year’s version of the Investor’s Day that saw Lightyear announced in 2020 – they’re probably saving all their biggest reveals for then.

I’m wary to get into too much speculation this time around, like I did with Toy Story 4 – I was surprised how contentious the debates about trailer release dates could get, not to mention all the plot theories. But I’ve been guessing that there might be a teaser trailer with Encanto, and then a full trailer with Turning Red (March 2022). Anything is possible, though! Pixar could totally surprise us, and we could see something more in-depth this November – the first full-length trailer for Toy Story 3 was shown in October 2009 ahead of a June 2010 release, so there is a precedent, even if it’s not typical. The tweet didn’t specify the type of trailer to expect, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m also wondering, if a Lightyear trailer is attached to Encanto, if that same trailer will be online then as well. I miss seeing movies in theaters, but I’m also not sure if I’m ready to go back just yet. That’s a decision I’ll make come November, because Encanto does look like a fun film. It may just end up being our first theater experience since Covid – especially if it means I can see (human) Buzz on the big screen, too.

Lightyear is only eight months away now, and it seems kind of hard to believe that it’s so soon! The past eighteen months have been such a struggle (for all of us), and I’m sure I’m not alone in having a hard time feeling really excited about things anymore – it’s like I’m in a constant state of “meh.” But I’m hoping once there starts to be some regular news about Lightyear, that’ll improve a bit. Toy Story has a way of lifting my spirits, and it’ll be nice to have something to look forward to again!
