Toy Story Throwback: Lee Unkrich’s ‘Toy Story 3’ Formspring

We passed the two-year countdown mark for Toy Story 4 back in June – down to 20 months now – but we still have a long way to go.  And since news on the upcoming sequel continues to be light these days, I thought I might as well share another of my “throwback” posts while we wait.  It’s as good a time as any to reminisce about the previous Toy Story film, as we anticipate the next one and ponder what secrets its story holds for us.

I think it’s safe to say that anyone who was a part of the Toy Story fandom during the days surrounding Toy Story 3‘s release in 2010 can remember director Lee Unkrich’s account on Formspring.  The now-defunct social media site’s format was strictly Q&A, and although I never had the nerve to ask him anything myself, I can remember checking often to see if he’d answered anything new.  Sadly, he deleted the account – and all the goodness it contained – not too long thereafter, so I never had the chance to screencap or jot down the questions that were asked and their replies, which were fascinating to a fan like myself.

Toy Story 4: Is a Schedule Shakeup Coming?

toy-story-4-logo

Ever since Toy Story 4 was announced in 2014, whenever there’s been a new Pixar film, I’ve sought out interviews with its filmmakers – I’ve found that it’s not uncommon for the Pixar Braintrust to be asked about Toy Story 4, and offer little hints or clues about its progress.  With Andrew Stanton, Lindsey Collins, and Angus MacLane on an international press tour to promote Finding Dory, I’ve unearthed a wealth of material lately – I really enjoyed Finding Dory, so I’ve been interested in the added insight into the making of that movie.  And In the past month since its release, the majority of the Toy Story 4 mentions have been the typical, brief “we can’t tell you” replies that we’ve come to expect from Pixar.  However, some of the statements made in the most recent interviews have me very concerned about the status of Toy Story 4′s production and where it is ultimately going to end up in Pixar’s schedule of upcoming releases.

WDW Trip Recap: Meeting Pixar at Disney Springs

Pete Docter Disney SpringsLet me start out by saying that I am not usually a right-place-at-the-right-time sort of girl.  More often than not, the events I’d most like to attend take place in California or New York; rarely does something occur in a location that’s convenient for me.  So, when I got an exciting Twitter notification while we were on our most recent Walt Disney World vacation, I was completely blown away by our unusual turn of good fortune.

Did Pixar give us Toy Story fans a belated Christmas present?  Is this the very first concept art to be released for Toy Story 4?  The image – which is consistent with the style of a storyboard sketch – was tweeted by Pixar Story Supervisor Matthew Luhn on Sunday:

Toy Story News Roundup: Interviews, Toy Story at 20

TS News Roundup

It’s been over two weeks since I’ve published anything on this blog, and there’s a good reason for that – I’ve been at Disney World!  My family and I are annual passholders, so we head to the parks as often as we can – this time it was to attend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and to celebrate Toy Story‘s 20th anniversary with the toys themselves.  We had some amazing luck while we were there that led to an unforgettable Pixar experience, which I’ll be writing about soon in a future post.  But for now, I thought I’d recap the little snippets of Toy Story related news that came out while I was away.

Toy Story 4: Did We Miss a Clue in Pete Docter’s Interview?

Pete Docter Interview

Earlier this week, an ET interview with Pete Docter began circulating, in which he debunked several Toy Story-related fan theories and dropped some vague hints about Toy Story 4.  When I first found the video, those were the details I paid the closest attention to.  Now, in light of the movie’s delayed release, a statement made by the interviewer stands out as a possible missed clue to changes in production.
