A new graphic novel anthology has been announced for Toy Story 4, to be published by Dark Horse Comics. It is scheduled to go on sale May 7, 2019, along with many other books tied to the film’s release.
The publication was first revealed on their blog yesterday, where they provided the following description:
Four Times the Fun With this Graphic Novel Anthology Featuring Your Favorite Old Toys… And Some New Ones!
The story continues! It’s been almost a decade since we last checked in with Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang. As part of our continued partnership with Pixar, Dark Horse is pleased to announce a new Toy Story 4 graphic novel anthology that is the perfect companion to the highly anticipated upcoming film!
Writer Haden Blackman brings fun, energy, and heart to this graphic novel that features the toys you know and love—and introduces some new toys, too! The toys are back and once again swept up in an exciting adventure. Join Woody and the Toy Story gang in four connecting stories set before and after Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 4 for an adventure perfect for the whole family.
This title has also been added to Amazon as a pre-order, to join the other Toy Story 4 books that have already been listed. Amazon’s summary echoes that found on the blog:
A graphic novel anthology expanding on the feature film Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4.
Explore the lives of some of Toy Story’s favorites! The toys are back and do they have a story to tell! Join Woody and the Toy Story gang in four connecting stories set before and after Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4.
Writer Haden Blackman (Star Wars) brings fun, energy, and heart to this graphic novel that features the toys you know and love–and introduces some new toys, too!
It’s fantastic to think we’ll get four new stories surrounding the movie! And the best takeaway of all from this description is that at least one of these stories will be set after Toy Story 4. To those who worry – based on remarks from the voice actors – that the film will have a sad ending, this can be seen as a glimmer of hope that there will be plenty more to tell with these characters ones the movie’s official storyline is over.
Personally, I’m still struggling over whether or not to pre-order or look for these books on May 7. With every new title that is discovered, the decision to avoid spoilers or jump right into the new merchandise at the earliest possible moment is getting more and more difficult. I may find myself having a moment of crisis at our local Barnes & Noble!
