Is There a Hint in the ‘Toy Story That Time Forgot’ Commentary?

The Blu-ray and DVD releases of Toy Story That Time Forgot hit store shelves yesterday, and as promised, I bought my own copy and watched it last night, including all the bonus features.  The director’s commentary is always one of my favorites, because I love to learn about the thought processes that went into the creation of the story and its animation.  And this time, I might have caught something significant at the very end of the commentary for Toy Story That Time Forgot.

The remarks are made during the last scene of the credits, when Reptillus is looking out the playroom window…

“Hopefully they’ll get to meet again in the near future.”

“They’ll be playing again in another movie, hopefully.”

“Ha, ha.  You never know.”

So.  Will we see Reptillus again in Toy Story 4?  Or is there another television special coming in the near-er future than 2018, since Pixar often refers to these specials as movies/films too?  Or are they just messing with us?  These sneaky little clues drive me crazy!  But, maybe that’s the point, to keep the fans guessing.  If you own the Blu-ray, listen to it yourself!

Until next time, Reptillus…

Hmm. Maybe. Perhaps, the dinosaurs’ relationships are like that of Woody, Buzz, and Jessie. At first, when Woody meets Jessie, everyone thinks he’s found a new girl, but later as it turns out, the two are more like brother and sister while it’s obvious that she and Buzz have their eyes set on each other.
When Rex and Trixie first meet, they obviously get along great and everyone is thinking, “Rex has a girlfriend.” But then, like Buzz with Jessie, Trixie later meets Reptillus and they like each other. Maybe the dinos’ friendships are being paralleled to the three main characters. I don’t know. Well, anyway, that’s the way I see it.

That’s a good point! 🙂 They do sort of parallel each other in a way, because at the end of Toy Story 3, even throughout the shorts and Toy Story of TERROR! it wasn’t clear what exactly Rex and Trixie’s relationship was. But then Reptillus comes along as a love interest for Trixie, and Rex seems fine with that – just like Woody is visibly happy to see Buzz and Jessie together romantically. Kristen Schaal actually answered a question about Trixie and Rex at the same Comic Con panel that’s shown in the special features, and she referred to the two as good friends, nothing more (I don’t remember if the term sibling was mentioned, though, as with Woody and Jessie, who have been referred to as siblings before). I’ll have to see if I can track down that old panel video again! 😉
